Robert Jayer-Gilles (former cellarmaster at Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and now retired) and his son Gilles are natives of Vosne-Romanée. While there are many Jayers in Burgundy, Gilles Jayer is regarded as one of the best, like his father and grandfather (the great Henri) before him. The estate is collected around the world and its wines are very scarce.

”A flamboyant aroma of black raspberry confiture, creme de cassis, coconut, clove, nutmeg, star anise and roasted meats leads to a clear, sweetly-fruited, smoke-tinged palate and a finish that reverberates with low-toned stony mineral notes and pure peals of gloriously ripe yet brightly ringing fruit. Two thousand five has been a year to witness some amazing successes from those portions of Echezeaux that nature designed for great Pinot potential, but the quality from Jayer-Gilles and his vines has seldom been less than outstanding year after year.” eRobertParker.com

”…a gorgeous array of Asian spice, tea, earth and mostly black and blue pinot fruit aromas that introduce textured, sweet and firm big-bodied flavors blessed with ample mid-palate fat and loads of dry extract on the powerful yet balanced and sweet finish. As it always is, this is the class of the range by a considerable margin and offers terrific development potential.” Burghound
