In 1982, Sir Peter Michael and Lady Michael bought 630 acres of volcanic ridges on the western face of Mount St. Helena in Knights Valley, following a long search for the finest terroir available in the Sonoma. They put in place a brilliant winemaking team to follow and build upon their ethos of Old World winemaking with New World terroir. Only 300 cases of the Clos du Ciel were ever produced.

"a game-changing Pinot Noir that sets the wine world upside down given its spectacular quality. It boasts a dense ruby/plum/purple color as well as a big, sweet bouquet of licorice, spring flowers, black currants, black cherries, forest floor and raspberries. Deep and full with a flawless attack, mid-section and finish, it builds incrementally on the palate, then lingers for 40-45 seconds on the finish. It reveals an ethereal lightness despite its intensity of flavor"

”Peter Michael Winery may be the best-run winery of its size for world-class quality..Having followed these wines for nearly two decades, they seem to go from strength to strength..." Robert Parker
