Antinori Solaia 1997
|
Sorry - out of stock
Optimum drinking: 2012-2018 Rating: 98 - Wine Spectator Grape varieties: Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon Winemaker: Renzo Cotarella Appellation: I.g.T. Toscana Antinori's Solaia 1997 was one of the best ever vintages for this Super Tuscan, and was Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year in 2000.
Solaia is Antinori's flagship wine, with a worldwide following. Six hundred years of the Antinori's family winemaking skills and traditions have gone into making the Solaia (lit. the sunny one), which is drawn from carefully selected grapes from the vineyard of the same name.
Aged in 100% French oak and bottled unfiltered to preserve the quality of its fabulous grapes and uniquely supreme soils, this is about as serious as Tuscany gets.
"Full-bodied and very chewy, with loads of polished tannins and a long, long finish that's big and fruity. A solid, muscular red from Tuscany, this is the greatest Solaia ever made." Wine Spectator
“The sensational, opaque blue/purple-colored 1997 exhibits a complex nose of cedar, spice box, cassis, and subtle oak...this wine reveals extraordinary concentration, a thick, viscous texture, yet no sense of heaviness or ponderousness." eRobertParker.com
