Producer: Cayuse Vineyards
Optimum drinking: 2015-2027 Rating: 99 - eRobertParker.com Grape varieties: Syrah 100% Winemaker: Christophe Baron Appellation: Columbia Valley Cayuse Vineyards Bionic Frog 2007 is a Rhône style red – as popular as it is spectacular - one of America’s iconic cult wines. And the 2007 vintage was rated 99 points by eRobertParker.com.
Owner/winemaker Christophe Baron is a cult personality in Washington county. Twenty years ago the then young French travelling vigneron turned a field of stones in little known Walla Walla into one of America’s finest vineyards. The terroir reminded him of the cobblestones of the southern Rhône Valley and Châteuneuf-du-Pape, and he has been crafting spectacular Rhône inspired reds ever since. These wines are very hard to come by and available through Cayuse’s mailing list only.
“The 2007 Bionic Frog Syrah surrenders a splendid aromatic array of forest floor, herbs, olives, bacon, underbrush, blueberry, and black cherry. This is followed by a voluptuous wine with gobs of succulent fruit, impeccable balance, enough fine-grained tannin to evolve for 5-7 years, and a lengthy, seductive finish.” eRobertParker.com
“Cayuse is no longer a secret and it may be America’s toughest mailing list to crack...but do whatever it takes to get your hands on a few of these gems.” Jay Miller, The Wine Advocate
