Producer: Château Potensac
Optimum drinking: 2013-2014 Rating: 89 - eRobertParker.com Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 25%, Cabernet Franc 15% Winemaker: Jean-Hubert Delon Appellation: A.O.C. Pauillac, Bordeaux Château Potensac 2000 comes from a great Bordeaux vintage and is drinking at its peak right now. A wonderful opportunity to taste this great vintage without the price premium of the Bordeaux growths.
Château Potensac is a leading Cru Bourgeois château planted on gravel soils of the Médoc. Crus Bourgeois is a classification that encompasses great value left bank Bordeaux châteaux that were not included in the Growth system of the 1855 Bordeaux classification. Since the 1970s, under the great winemaker Michel Delon (of Léoville-Las-Cases fame), Potensac saw a huge surge in quality, yet sadly he passed away during this great vintage. However, his dynamic son Jean-Hubert made a great wine in honour of his father, and continues to make great Crus Bourgeois at Potensac.
"The elegant, fresh, deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 reveals a grapy, red currant, black cherry, mineral, earth, and wood-scented bouquet. It will be long-lived for a wine of its class...a beautiful sleeper of the vintage. Rich and concentrated, it may be the finest Potensac since the 1982." eRobertParker.com
"Firm and well-done, with focused berry and mineral character throughout. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine and sleek tannins and a long, racy finish." Wine Spectator
