Harlan Estate was founded in 1984 by William Harlan, and is stunningly set in the stunning western hills of Oakville, above the fabled Oakville benchlands, in the heart of the Napa Valley. The estate ethos is simple, to produce a Californian 'First Growth'. The Wine Spectator has called the estate a 'Californian grand cru', while Robert Parker has commented that it 'might be the single most profound red wine made not just in California, but in the world'.

Harlan Estate's Maiden is the sister wine rather than the second wine of this great cult Californian estate. Made in tiny quantities, grab this boutique Californian Cabernet while you can.

"More serious and concentrated, bigger and denser, the 2013 The Maiden is one of the strongest efforts, and possibly the best Maiden tasted to date. Deep, with mulberry and blackberry fruit, some cedarwood, and terrific opulence, this is a stunner and a wine to drink over the next 20 or more years." Robert Parker

"The purity of black fruit, black currants and blackberry is impressive, yet it remains subdued. Floral, ripe tobacco. Turns to spices such as cloves and Cameroon green pepper. Full-bodied, tight and compressed. Powerful yet polished and refined. The best Maiden ever. A blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Try in 2020 but so great already." James Suckling
