Detailed Description
Golden West Condition Report - Imported by us with excellent in the neck fills, clean labels and capsules. In top condition for its age. UK Bottled.

"Several notes, several bottlings, all good. Some colour loss but rich and attractive. Only three notes since 1988, two in 1994, the first in Aspen, elegant, complete, lovely texture; fully developed, surprisingly sweet, then very good at a Symington tasting. At Dow's bicentenary tasting in 1998, a well-nigh perfect bottle, fragrant, very sweet yet with a Dow dry finish. Most recently: lovely, evolved, slightly spirity; very sweet for Dow, delicious, perfect now. Last noted at the Symington families' tasting in London. --Michael Broadbent 5 Star

"An extremely sound wine with focused fruit flavors and great class and breeding. Deep ruby, with floral, grapy aromas, full-bodied, with rather hard tannins, well-knit cherry and berry flavors and a long finish." -- James Suckling 94

The Dow displayed a bright ruby core with some orange bricking on the rim. Sweet confected nose of toffee, poached prunes and Medjool dates, with a light showing of alcohol towards the end of the nose. There is plenty of fleshy and dense juice, which is drinking well right now and shows no signs of decline, given its nearly 40 years of age. It is really hitting on all cylinders and the mid-palate provides intensity and fine depth. This is an atypically sweet Dow in style and it is hard not to love this Port at this point. I believe that well stored bottles will hold quite well for another decade, so there is no hurry to drink your bottles now. OTOH, I can't see this Dow getting much better then it is today. The lightly caramelized, plum and nutty flavors deliver a seamless texture, both smooth and elegant, which translates to an aftertaste that is as delicious as it is long.
94 Points -Roy Hersh - For The Love Of Port 5/4/05

"There are a number of really stupendous vintage ports combining structure and that quintessential dark, bitter chocolate intensity of flavour. Dow and Fonseca are two of my all-time favorites." Richard Mayson Decanter Magazine

"in perfect balance right now, rich fruit and still fresh after all these years" Paul Symington (joint managing director Dow) Decanter Magazine

"The 1966 is also a top success for that vintage; in fact, it would be hard to find a better port for that year". -- Robert Parker, The Wine Buyers Guide.

"The 1966 Dow is one of my favourites. It is a classy, racy wine with a dry hardness that seems to focus its layers of violet and cherry flavors. It is a truly fine wine". -- James Suckling, Vintage Port.

"An attractive harmonious almost creamy bouquet, more flesh and body, also with citrus-like zest. My top mark of the dozen 1966's". -- Michael Broadbent, Decanter.

"The splendid 1966, where Dow's is a candidate for Best Port of the Vintage". -- Serena Sutcliffe, The Wine Column, Sotherby's Preview.
