Detailed Description
Golden West Condition Report - These are very nice bottlings for their age with levels bottom neck or better -- most are into the neck, clean labels and capsules. Fine 1966 stock - UK Bottled.

"250 pipes shipped for UK bottling. Another beauty, backed up with dozens of admiring notes, starting with a lovely, full, fruity note in August 1968. Consistently sweet, and in the 1970s 'powerful'; 'fat'; 'superb' in the early 1980s. ...a harmonious UK-bottled wine at Gidleigh Park the following year, silkily clad, with wonderful shape and texture. Eleven bottles decanted and consumed at the great dinner to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Christie's wine department: sheer perfection. A superb, soft red-brown, long-'legged' Wine Society bottling at Christie's, Los Angeles, and later the same month before the first race at Ascot, still remarkably firm and lively... Then (Nov 2000), in magnums, a lovely soft ruby colour; classic nose, liquorice, touch of tar; leaner than expected but lovely. Most recently: bottled 1968 by Christopher & Co: some colourless but superb bouquet, flavour and texture. ***** Now-2030." -- Michael Broadbent - 5 Star

"Full, vigorous, rich and classy on the palate. Not too sweet. This is a big concentrated, very fine example. Bags of life ahead of it." -- Clive Coates, The Vine, Score 19 out of 20

The '66 still has some upside improvement and will probably hold on during a long plateau when it finally reaches full maturity almost a decade from now. Surprisingly, this delivered a bigger impression than the '70 which is a personal favorite of mine, from the same year that Graham's sold to the Symington's. This particular bottling showed no hints as to its 40 years of age and still had a superb structure in place. I'd have given another point or so, except for a bit of heat on the palate which also showed spirit on the otherwise sublime finish. It will drink best circa 2005-2015.
94 Points. Roy Hersh For The Love Of Port - 3/12/06

"This suffered due to having only three hours of decanting prior to our tasting. Usually I give this one six full hours. Therefore, it showed significant heat early on and I told the others to be patient. An hour prior to our departure, this was showing the beauty I have come to expect from this VP. Still on the upswing with a solid structural foundation, this sweet and spicy Graham's is always a winner in my book. Very youthful for a 40 year old VP and well stored bottles will drink exceptionally well for at least another decade and likely two". -- Roy Hersh, For The Love of Port, 11.05.2006, 94+ Points out of 100
