"A superb wine: fragrant, flowery bouquet and flavour. Sweet of course. Last tasted Sept 2006 ***** Now-beyond 2015." -- Michael Broadbent 5 Star

"The Graham family's last vintage. Originally (July 1972) opaque, still deep, plummy and fairly intense, showing rich extract; fragrant, high-toned yet harmonious bouquet though still a bit hard; very sweet, full-bodied, lots of fruit, grip, length, tannin and acidity. Chocolate and spice. Well over two dozen notes since 1982, all consistently good. In the mid-1990s, lovely, distinctive, very sweet. Equal top marks, Oporto-bottled, at Gidleigh Park, still with leathery tannins. Coping miraculously at a Zachys/Christie's charity dinner with chocolate souffle. Showing well at the Primum Familiae Vini dinner at Vinopolis. A superb bottle at a dinner party at home. Most recently: soft tawny-red; gloriously fragrant and flowery; complete, excellent. Last noted at the Symington tasting. ***** Now-2020." -- Michael Broadbent 5 Star

"This is an extremely full-bodied, powerful wine, but it still retains a classy balance. Deep ruby, with chocolate and berry aromas, full-bodied, with anise and dried cherry flavors, full, hard tannins and a long finish." - James Suckling 94

"What more could someone want in a Port?" -- James Suckling, The Wine Spectator

"Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. The 1970 is a monumental vintage port and one of the greats of the vintage." - Robert Parker 93

When the '70 Graham's is spot on, it is one of my all-time favorites by this illustrious Shipper. This bottle delivered in spades! It's a 36 year old gem that just keeps getting better with every sample I get to try. I don't open my bottles yet, as I think the upside here is well worth the wait, but I love it and this example is showing a bright and youthful ruby color with no bricking. The '70 is a complete VP and pretty close to perfection even at this point. All components are in synch with a lovely and sexy nose lead by fresh flowers, spice and boysenberry with finely knit subdued tannins only noticeable late in the game. The symmetry here is remarkable and the flavors and finish meld into one fine, sumptuous swallow. A long life is still ahead for this exemplary Graham's and I suggest it will drink best circa 2010-2020.
97 Points. Roy Hersh For The Love Of Port - 3/12/06.

"1970 produced some truly great wines which are only just ready to broach. Dow and Graham fall into this category. Decanter Magazine

"Fullish colour, just about mature. Full, firm nose. Still undeveloped. Still a bit closed. The complete wine. Fullish, just about ready. Real depth. Excellent depth. Excellent complex fruit. Delicious". -- Clive Coates MW, The Quarterly Review of Wines. Score 20 out of 20

"Very deep crimson with some evolution at the rim. Strongly scented - sweet, candied violets. Very sweet yet vigorous and still with lots of quite grainy tannins. Real power and no shortage of potential!" -- Jancis Robinson, www.jancisrobinson.com, 14th October 2004, 18 Points

"Always in my top 4 of the '70 vintage, this had the deepest darkest extraction of all four Ports in this flight. Decanted for 8 hours and well done. Some tobacco, spice, figs and treacle aromas provide the goods. The strong suite of this bottle was the exceptional balance, although it is not quite as great as ex-cellars bottles I've had. Vibrant, rich, youthful and almost syrupy in profile. Nonetheless, delicious and with a long life ahead, though it drinks beautifully today, it will reach maturity in ten to fifteen more years. What separates this from greater bottles of Graham's 1970 is the length of the finish and overall complexity". -- Roy Hersh, For The Love of Port, 11.05.2006, 95+ Points out of 100
