1 bottle available
Optimum drinking: 2012-2030 Rating: 95 - eRobertParker.com Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon Appellation: Napa Valley Mondavi 30th Anniversary Reserve 1996 is a very rare gem for lovers of the finest Californian Cabernet.
Robert Mondavi has been the single biggest influence in Californian wine over the last four decades. After working at his family estate, Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena, Mondavi left in 1966 to create his own winery in Oakville. The company is now run by Robert's two sons, with Michael as chief executive and Tim as winemaker.
Mondavi is best known for its benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, which possess depth, power and balance - and consistently some of California's greatest red wines.
"There is a majesty, richness, and breadth to 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon 30th Anniversary Reserve. This special bottling (about 1,000 cases) is a fabulous wine. From its opaque purple color and stunning aromatics of blackberries, cassis, pain grille, licorice, and Asian spices, to its full-bodied, concentrated, superbly-extracted style, this wine possesses virtually everything. Layers of fruit, glycerin, extract, and sweet tannin are presented in a flamboyant format. The tannin level is high, but so is the wine's richness and length. It is a sensational effort." eRobertParker.com
