Joseph Phelps Insignia 2001 is a stunning Bordeauxinspired Californian red. Insignia has been on a roll since 1990 - rich and ripe and aged oak barrels for 22 months - a powerful Napa Valley classic.

Jospeh Phelps was a building contractor from Colorado who invested in vineyards in the Napa Valley in 1972, and in 1974 he made the very first vintage of Insignia, which at the time was one of the first Bordeaux style blends in California.

"The sensational, prodigious 2001 Insignia Proprietary Red Wine has never performed better. Still extremely youthful with a dense purple color as well as a beautiful bouquet of cedar, charcoal, incense, creme de cassis and black cherry jam, fabulous intensity, a multidimensional mouthfeel and a skyscraper-like texture, it is a Napa classic that is still very youthful and belies its age of ten years. Like its stablemate, it should age impeccably for 35 or more years. Kudos to Joseph Phelps Vineyards!" eRobertParker.com
