Tenuta San Guido was brought under the holdings of Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta in 1940. The Marchese took the pioneering move of introducing non-native varieties into the Sangiovese-dominated vineyards, such as Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc from vine cuttings taken from Bordeaux, and in doing so shaped a whole new generation of wines known as the Super-Tuscans – and thus revolutionising Italy’s image in the wine world. Sassicaia has become synonymous with a standard of production that is without compromise, respected the world over.

“…a beautiful, tightly wound nose that unfolds in the glass. It is surprisingly Bordeaux-like, reminding me of a mature Pauillac with cigar box interwoven into the ripe black fruits with touches of liquorices, wild mint, mulberry and white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, sensuous silky texture ..Very harmonious with hints of hung game, Italian salami towards the off-dry finish, the ’90 has wonderful depth and breadth.” eRobertParker.com

“A sexy wine that has gained somewhat since 1993 ...this is still prototypical Sassicaia for its great complexity. Offers mineral, lead pencil, tar, cassis and black olive notes, solid backbone and firm, elegant finish.” Wine Spectator
