Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons – a 'Napa Valley' and the 'Special Selection' – both Cabernets have a long 'hang time' on the vine where grapes develop suppleness, concentration and maturity giving these great wines their distinctive cocoa, cassis and vanilla notes. Caymus Special Selection is the flagship wine of the Wagner family. It is only produced in great vintages and is comprised of the very best barrels of the vintage.

Caymus Vineyards was established by the Wagner family on their own ranch and produced their first vintage in 1972. Today, the estate remains 100% family-owned and stretches over 350 acres of prime Napa Valley land. The Wagners took the name Caymus from the Mexican land grant known as Rancho Caymus, given to George Yount in 1836, which encompassed what eventually became the town of Rutherford and much of the surrounding area.

“A fabulous effort, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection boasts an inky/purple color to the rim as well as a gloriously exuberant bouquet of creme de cassis, graphite, vanilla, and charcoal. Dense and full-bodied, with fabulous purity, sweet tannin, decent acidity, and perfect equilibrium, this is a great Napa Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now.

“This stunning, inky/plum/purple-tinged 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection boasts a glorious fragrance of creme de cassis, licorice, toasty oak, spice box, cassis and vanillin. Full-bodied, opulent, flashy and irresistible, this endearing, plush, exuberant, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon is 3-5 years away from full maturity, yet it is already complex and rewarding.”
