Chateau Latour 1996 is absolutely sensational - the finest wine of the excellent 1996 Bordeaux vintage, rated 99 points by Robert Parker.

1996 was a great Bordeaux vintage for the left bank (the northern Médoc in particular), with many sensational wines showing why it is the finest winemaking district on earth: powerful, full-bodied Cabernets like Latour that require considerable ageing to reach their full potential.

Latour 1996 is about as serious as Bordeaux gets, a massively concentrated wine built for the long-haul.

"The nose offers a tantalizing array of complex notes including dried Chinese plums, toasted nuts, Indian spices and black olive tapenade over a core of dried cherries and aged meat. The palate is pure power that is stunningly balanced giving a generous level of fruit concentration perfectly offset by a high level of very finely grained tannins and seamless freshness. Possessing a finish that just goes on and on, this is as good as it gets."

“A spectacular Latour, the 1996 may be the modern day clone of the 1966, only riper. An opaque purple color is followed by phenomenally sweet, pure aromas of cassis infused with subtle minerals. This massive offering possesses unreal levels of extract, full body, intensely ripe, but abundant tannin, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. Classic and dense...” eRobertParker.com

"Fabulous aromas of crushed raspberries, plums and blackberries. Mind-blowing nose. Full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins and a long caressing finish." Wine Spectator
