Colgin Cariad 2009 comes from a great Cariad vintage - a Californian Bordeaux style blend crafted from fruit sourced from the esteemed Madrona Ranch and Thorevilos vineyard.

Colgin was founded by Ann Colgin, and since its first vintage in 1992, has rapidly become one of Napa's finest estates, specialising in complex, structured Californian classics reminiscent of top-flight Bordeaux classed growths from the left bank; crafted by winemaker Allison Tauziet and the highly renowned French consultant Alain Raynaud. Much of their produce is sold through its mailing list, for which there is a very long queue, and so we are delighted to be have secured a very small allocation of the Cariad for you to savor.

“High-pitched aromas of blueberry, cherry, wild herbs and minerals. Initially creamy, fat and sweet in the middle but firmed up dramatically with air, ultimately showing a strong graphite minerality and much less lushness and easy sweetness. Finishes with a firm spine of building tannins. The most Medoc-like of this 2009 collection, and in need of at least several years of aging.” Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar

“...deep, sensual and beautifully balanced in its dark black fruit, menthol, spices and licorice. This is a much firmer and more structured wine than the Tychson Hill. It doesn’t have that wine’s sheer early appeal, but it does have the structure to age gracefully for years. Smoke, savory herbs and licorice are some of the notes that frame the explosive finish.”
