Bottle report: Excellent condition overall

Michel Niellon’s tiny domaine comprises just 6 hectares, with 4.5 in Chevalier Montrachet and just two in Batard Montrachet, which makes its stunning white Burgundies incredibly hard to get hold of. We therefore snapped up this gem while we could. Niellon’s wonderfully sited Grand Cru Vineyards are planted with old vines, and low yields give his Chardonnays incredible intensity, with Michel’s winemaking adding the finishing touch of a genius.

“Wonderfully complex aromas that are reserved, tight and backward complement superbly rich, classy and pure full-bodied, indeed even muscular flavors of almost painful intensity. This is quite deep and exceptionally fine for Bâtard with length that just goes on and on. A stunner of a wine with huge potential and this is the first vintage in quite some time where the Bâtard is every bit as good as the Chevalier.” Burghound

”There are loads of rich mineral aromas in the nose of the 2002 Batard-Montrachet. Fat, rich, and plush, it coats the palate with resin-laced minerals. Armed with gorgeous depth, concentration, purity, and focus.”
