Harlan Estate was founded in 1984 by William Harlan, and is stunningly set in the stunning western hills of Oakville, above the fabled Oakville benchlands, in the heart of the Napa Valley. The estate ethos is simple, to produce a Californian 'First Growth'. The Wine Spectator has called the estate a 'Californian grand cru', while Robert Parker has commented that it 'might be the single most profound red wine made not just in California, but in the world'.

Harlan Estate's Maiden is the sister wine rather than the second wine of this great cult Californian estate. Made in tiny quantities, grab this boutique Californian Cabernet while you can.

"I was blown away by the 2004 The Maiden, which out of bottle is even better than it was from barrel. This wine exhibits a rather flamboyant scorched earth, lead pencil, incense, licorice, and blackberry and cassis-scented nose and flavors. The wine has superb concentration and is opulent, fleshy, and very much in keeping with the style of the vintage...a super wine in its own right.” Robert Parker

"Big, dark, rich, intense and firmly tannic, with a massive, layered core of spicy currant, mocha, black cherry and blackberry fruit that's deep and concentrated, unfolding with a remarkable measure of grace and finesse." Wine Spectator

"Bill Harlan, winemaker Bob Levy and consulting oenologist Michel Rolland have achieved spectacular results in an amazingly short time at this estate in the western hills overlooking the Oakville corridor. The introduction of a second wine, The Maiden, has allowed this team to ratchet up the level of the grand cru. From over 40 acres of vineyard, only 1,500-1,600 cases of Harlan Estate and 800 cases of The Maiden are produced. In order to keep quality at such an extraordinary level, I suspect production will never go much higher."
