Harlan Estate 1996 was rated 98 points by Robert Parker.

Harlan Estate was founded in 1984 by William Harlan, and is stunningly set in the stunning western hills of Oakville, above the fabled Oakville benchlands, in the heart of the Napa Valley. The estate ethos is simple, to produce a Californian 'First Growth'. The Wine Spectator has called the estate a 'Californian grand cru', while Robert Parker has commented that it 'might be the single most profound red wine made not just in California, but in the world'.

”…extraordinary intensity, a spicy, black currant, tobacco, cedar, and fruit cake-scented bouquet, full body, a texture oozing with glycerin and concentrated fruit, and moderate tannin in the blockbuster finish. It is one of the most concentrated and complete red wines one could hope to taste.” Robert Parker
