Louis Roederer’s Cristal is regarded by many as the first prestige Champagne cuvee.

Cristal was created for Alexander II of Russia in the late 19th century. As a result of the Tsar’s fear of assassination the glass bottle was made clear so that he could see the bubbles and be reassured that there wasn’t a bomb concealed within. Louis Roederer’s Champagnes are largely sourced from their own vineyards, which ensure that they complete control over the quality of fruit that goes into every single Champagne bottle.

"Bright gold. Deep, subtly smoky nectarine and musky yellow plum aromas are energized by a suave mineral quality. Broad and fleshy, with deep, chewy pear, pit fruit and buttered toast flavors. A serious style, with velvety texture and excellent finishing punch. This has the concentration to repay cellaring but is open-knit enough to enjoy on the young side." Stephen Tanzer

"This goes for personality and finesse. An assertive, honeyed style, with plenty of citrus flavors. Mature coffee and roasted nut accents are peeking through, with a robust structure and a dried citrus aftertaste. Drink now through 2025." Wine Spectator
