Penfolds Grange 2012 yields from just two sub-regions of South Australia this year; the Barossa and McLaren Vale. Both sub-regions had great years, as Penfolds' rich, full-bodied flagship wine amply demonstrates.

In 2012 bursts of warmth and dry conditions throughout the harvest allowed fruit to be picked in optimal condition and smaller than average berry and bunch sizes along with favourable weather conditions produced great results in tannin profiles, fruit concentration and flavour depth.

Penfolds Grange is one of Australia's finest and most famous wines, officially listed as a heritage icon of South Australia: a wine of extraordinary dimension and power. It has maintained its place as Australia's most prestigious red wine over four decades, and each vintage is eagerly awaited by collectors both in Australia and overseas.

”Very deep purple-black in color, it opens on the nose with complex earthy/meaty/savory notes, soon giving way to baked blackberries, plum preserves, hoisin and Chinese five spice with dabs of sandalwood, licorice, menthol and vanilla. The palate reveals a surprisingly open, rich, full-bodied expression exuding a powerhouse of velvet-lined decadence. Still, it characteristically possesses that rock-solid “Grange” backbone of firm tannins and great freshness expressed in a real lively lift to the finish. And the finish is epically long…this is unquestionably a stonking great Grange!” eRobertParker.com

“it will be one of the greatest Granges”. Andrew Caillard MW says: “A transcendent and powerfully expressive Grange harking back to Max Schubert’s original blueprint. Its aromatic complexity, generosity and suppleness are reminiscent of the early 1960s. This has to be in the pantheon of all-time great vintages.
