Symington's Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2003
Optimum drinking: 2019-2024 Rating: 97 - Jamie Goode (Wineanorak) Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca Winemaker: Peter Symington Appellation: D.O. Douro, Portugal Bottle report: Close to pristine The Symington Group bought the Quinta do Vesuvio (vineyard) in 1989, which is one of the greatest and most remote vineyard areas in the entire Douro.
Vesuvio makes port in both declared and non-declared vintages where the quality of the fruit is good enough. Fruit is still trodden by foot in stone lagares as tradition dictates which, is often argued, makes the finest Ports.
”Vivid and aromatically rich with lovely purity of fruit. Brilliantly fresh and structured on the palate. A truly great wine.” Jamie Goode – Wineanorak
”Waxy black and red cherries are found in the aromatic profile of the 2003 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port. Thick, creamy-textured, and exuberant, it offers a medium to full-bodied personality redolent with sweet black cherries and blackberries. A seductively sexy port, it is seamless, feminine, ample, and displays a long, syrupy finish.” eRobertParker.com
