Bottle report: Very good.

2000 was an excellent Port vintage, one of the very best in decades, with perfect harvest conditions resulting in grapes packed with rich fruit and tannin.

Taylor's vintage ports are renowned for their massive structure, concentration of flavour and distinctively masculine style. Taylor's Port is also renowned for being amongst the longest lived of all ports.

Taylor's, which remains an independent family-run business since its inception around 300 years ago, is also the market brand leader. It is one of the earliest shippers to acquire vineyards to produce the wine themselves, rather than merely buying from winemakers and then maturing it, thus ensuring a name synonymous with quality.

"Taylor's 2000 tastes like a young vintage of Chateau Latour on steroids. Aromas of graphite, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and smoke jump from the glass. Spectacularly concentrated and enormously endowed, with sweetness allied to ripe tannin, decent acidity, and layer upon layer of fruit and extract, this is the leading candidate for the port of the vintage." eRobertParker.com
