Warre's Vintage Port 1997
Optimum drinking: 2020-2040 Rating: 5* - Michael Broadbent Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca Appellation: D.O. Douro, Portugal Bottle report: Very Good overall - small marks to label. Warre's 1997 Vintage Port is drinking beautifully, with more promise from extended cellaring. Rated 5 stars by the great Michael Broadbent
Warre’s vintage ports often have great elegance and perfume as was the case in 1997, a standout wine for the vintage. Grapes are drawn from their prime vineyard site: the Quinta da Cavadinha, located in the Pinhão Valley, and fashioned in Warre’s unmistakable sumptuously rich style, with lovely characteristic underlying minerality. As with other port houses Warre’s maintain a lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, the buildings housing the largest oak vat used by any house: which holds the equivalent of over 178000 bottles of port!
"Richly scented; elegant, excellent finish." Michael Broadbent
